Garage Door Springs - Extension and Torsion Springs

Extension garage door springs work on the principle of stretching, and are used in swing-up doors. Such springs are located above the door. Torsion springs work on the principle of twisting, and are used in sectional roll-up doors. Such springs are located on the sides of the door.

Extension springs are somewhat safer to replace. However, both types of springs have a lot of tension in them, making their repair and replacement very dangerous for a non-professional. Furthermore, it's important to routinely check the integrity of your garage door springs in order to avoid any unpleasant consequences of impaired door springs.
